Make Your Own Bouncy Balls

Explore polymer science with this classic science experiment

Materials

  • White Glue

  • Warm water

  • Cornstarch

  • Borax

  • Food coloring

  • Cups

  • Measuring spoons

  • Spoons

  • Paper towels

Directions

  1. In a cup, mix 1 tsp Borax with 2 tbsps warm water. Stir to completely dissolve.

  2. In a separate cup, mix 2 tbsps of white glue with 2 teaspoons of cornstarch. Add in a few drops of food coloring and stir to combine.

  3. Add 1 tsp of the dissolved Borax mixture to your glue/cornstarch mixture and stir.

  4. Once it starts to harden, remove it from the cup and quickly knead it with your hands. As it becomes more pliable, roll it between your palms to form a ball. Be sure to add some pressure as you roll it to smooth out the surface. It will be messy.

  5. Once shaped it’s ready to bounce! Be sure to wash your hands after playing with these.
